For three decades, Mark Porter Associates has helped some of the world’s most influential publishers and broadcasters adapt to the changing media landscape. MPA is an award-winning design consultancy, working in digital, print and television. Our roots are in editorial, and our passion for storytelling shows in everything we do. Based in the UK but with a global outlook, we believe that good design is a universal language. Our design has won D&AD Black Pencils, SPD Gold Awards, and even received an award for clear communication from the Plain English Campaign.

Domus is the world’s most prestigious architecture and design magazine. Following in the footsteps of some veritable design legends, we were asked to develop a fresh visual approach for the website and the magazine to coincide with Domus’ 90th anniversary.

Redesigning The Sunday Times was like restoring a landmark building. Britain’s most successful quality Sunday paper dominates its market, and evolution, not revolution, was the brief. We brought a sharper, more contemporary spirit while preserving the historic fabric. (Collaboration with Esterson Associates).

A comprehensive rebrand which broke new ground in TV news design. We completely reimagined RTL Nieuws, the biggest commercial news network in the Netherlands, from on-air, to studio, music, and digital platforms. (Collaboration with Smörgåsbord Studio).

Tidsskriftet is the journal of the Norwegian Medical Association. A membership magazine, a research journal, and the primary source of high-level medical information in Norway. We redesigned the journal in print and online, and introduced a new brand identity that reflects the values of the content and the audience.

L'Express is an iconic French news magazine with a remarkable history. We delivered a comprehensive redesign and rebrand which was a resounding success with readers and advertisers. Bernard Henri-Lévy, France’s most famous philosopher and cultural commentator, tweeted: "Bravo, bravo, bravo!"

Mark Porter created a design philosophy and style for The Guardian which helped it build an international reputation. Beyond the influential and award-winning designs for the newspaper, website, and apps, the identity rolled out into motion, advertising and environments, making the Guardian one of the world’s most recognisable news organisations.

We collaborated with our friends at Spanish studio Atlas on the launch of a brand new digital news platform. El Nacional was founded by some of Barcelona’s most distinguished journalists, and has big ambitions to be a major force in Catalan, European and Global news.

Internazionale is simply unique — a Rome-based news magazine and website with the highest journalistic standards and a passionately committed young audience. They have become friends, and as good friends should, they push us to do our best. We gave them their identity, print and web design, and are working closely with them on long-term strategy and development.

RTLZ wanted to grow up, from a daytime financial news service into a credible and sophisticated business lifestyle channel. We delivered assets and visual guidelines which ensured that all elements shared a cohesive and unmistakable look. In the words of the tagline we coined for the channel, it’s “Business — not as usual.” (Collaboration with Smörgåsbord Studio).

UK charity Nesta asked us to create a new digital magazine on the theme of Innovation — one where the magazine, like the ideas it covered, would be an innovation in itself. The Long+Short pushed the boundaries, bringing high-end magazine design and art direction to HTML-based publishing.
